Varla Signs With Rider Circulation Services

Los Angeles, March 24, 2003 -- Varla Magazine has signed an exclusive International distribution deal with Rider Circulation Services (RCS). RCS will be marketing and soliciting the title to hundreds of retailers and wholesalers across the US and internationally with the goal of maximizing sell-through without compromising sales, integrity or content.

Varla Magazine was incepted in 1998 in Hollywood as a 'zine that met a need in the publishing market; a counter-culture Playboy showcasing beautiful, intelligent, alternative women, and a source for underground music as well as more well-known artists. Recent high profile music icon interviews include Gene Simmons and the late Dee Dee Ramone

The magazine, published quarterly, has held strong, even through a shaky economy where publishing has been hard hit; it has been distributed on an international level through Tower Records for the last three years. Female-owned Varla is geared toward the forward-thinking, creative 20-something male, though it has a strong female readership (c. 60/40). It embraces entrepreneurial and DIY (Do It Yourself) attitudes.

According to Publisher, Rachel Varla, "RCS has big plans for Varla, they see that it fills a market niche which is to-date, missing in publishing. We have worked hard to build a very strong, loyal and ever growing readership - our readers collect our magazine and the pass-along rate is high." Rachel continues, "Varla is appealing to the same readers of Rolling Stone or Maxim, but basically combines the two markets and touches on the underground music scene, which appeals to the alternative market."

RCS (Rider Circulation Services) is a progressive international distribution and marketing company for quality publications. Since their inception in 1989, RCS has earned a solid reputation for adapting to today's complex and rapidly evolving magazine marketplace. Other RCS clients include While You Were Sleeping, XLR8R and Flaunt.

Varla Magazine is independently-owned with offices in Silver Lake, CA and independent sales reps. The magazine embraces new music, musical icons, and beautiful women. Varla sponsors alternative events and concerts, and enjoys strong relationships with record labels and clothing companies on the forefront of music and fashion. In February 2003, founder, Rachel Varla, was sponsored by MAGIC International as a panel speaker on Alt fashion and marketing. Varla's first issue was published in 1999.
